Retrace

Retrace remembers what you've seen across your SaaS tools so you can find it, ask about it, and reopen it later. Unlike most "browser AI" tools, it runs entirely on your machine — your browsing, your queries, and the model itself never leave your device.

Retrace is two pieces working together: the browser extension (remembering and UI) and the desktop app (the local core that stores your memory and runs the AI models). The extension's UI is the rail (a thin strip on the left edge of the page, hosting your Spaces, Tools, Find, and Ask) plus an in-page overlay that opens Find and Ask over the active tab. There is no Chrome side panel.

What it does today

  • Find — instant recall. Hybrid keyword + semantic search over your remembered pages returns source cards; describe what you remember and Retrace finds the page. Find never waits on the answering model — it falls back to keyword-only (and says so) while the search model warms up.
  • Ask — grounded Q&A. The on-device model, running in the desktop app, answers questions about what you've seen — "what was that article about local LLMs from last week?" — citing the pages it drew from.
  • Spaces & Tools — group the SaaS apps for a project into a Space and launch them from the rail.

What's coming

  • Navigate — reopen the exact encounter, not just the page. The differentiator, in progress.
  • Per-tool remembering — tuned to Jira, Linear, Docs, and the other tools you live in.
